He is six years old and his eyes are wide open to love accepting his presence. He moves with the grace of the wind. He shows up smiling greeting his birthday with delight. I whisper to a teacher that his birthday is today. The kids around him sit in a circle and play stick instruments with a childish rhythm...skipping beats, adding beats, laughing at the silliness of learning and making mistakes. He joins in and his beat is precise. I clap and have to hold back my enthusiasm. I get excited when my kids step forward. I step forward with them and feel satisfied in the space we dance in. There is always a giving and receiving happening in relationship and I am learning to play the subtle tune of loving openly.
The last song is happy birthday and the kids use their musical sticks to sing to the words. Sansha soaks up the entire room with a genuine smile, his chest open his eyes smiling gratefully. He shoots a look over my way and I give him the thumbs up. He has connected to a classroom full of total strangers who love him and share this with him. The birthday song is over and the light over head dims all by itself. The room is quiet and the teacher says "It was the light fairy saying hello on Sansha's birthday". I smile. I agree. An energy as radiant as his must soak in an abundance of light.
